One boy dated his girl for many years. He was working in a company as a little executive. His future wasn’t bright but they were very happy together. One Valentine Day, this romantic boy folded 1,000 pieces of paper cranes as a gift to his girl. On the same day, the girl told him she was going to Paris to further her study and she would not come back. She also told him that she could not see any future in them as he was just a small executive. She proposed a breakup. Reluctantly, the boy agreed her request and both had a sad farewell Valentine meal in the usual cafe they first dated.
After the separation, He worked hard day and night, attended night class and slogging his body and mind just to make something out of his life. After several years of hard work and with the help of friends, he setup his small company selling paper craft, bought a small studio apartment and a luxury car.
One rainy day while this guy was driving; he saw an elderly couple sharing an umbrella in the rain and walking to some destination. Even with the umbrella, they were still drenched. It didn't take him long to realize those were his girl's parents. With a heart in getting back at them, he drove slowly beside the couple, wanting them to spot him in his luxury sedan. He wanted them to know that he wasn't the same anymore; he had his own company, car, comfort etc. He made it! Before the guy can realize, the couple was walking towards a cemetery, not far away and the boy drove them there. With a shock, he saw a photograph of his ex-girlfriend smiling sweetly as ever at him from her tombstone. Next to the tombstone rested his precious paper cranes in a bottle placed beside her tomb.
Her parents explained that she did not leave for France at all. She was stricken ill with cancer and she insisted her parents to keep this secret from him. She passed away with the final stage of cancer 2 days after she broke up with him. In her heart, she believed he would make it someday. The girl did not want her illness to be in his obstacle and she chose to leave him.
She had wanted her parents to put his paper cranes beside her when she died, because, if the day came when fate brought him to her again, she wanted him to take some of those paper cranes back with him. The guy just wept and he broke down. He took home the bottle of 1,000 paper cranes; he gave her on Valentine Day.
This boy stayed single for the rest of his life. He truly lost someone he loved and he put all his heart in his career. He made it to the top 30 entrepreneurs of the year and he earned his first million dollar at the age of 3
